FCC-Compliant Operation of Low-Rate UWB Impulse Radio Applying Multiple Pulses per Bit

چکیده
Starting from the FCC Regulations and the IEEE UWB standard this contribution derives the required specifications for the blocks of UWB transceivers. It shows that if CMOS technology is used then the coverage of UWB impulse radio is limited by the low supply voltage. To overcome this limit more than one UWB carrier pulse is used to keep transmitted energy per bit high enough but to reduce the required voltage swing below the supply voltage. The optimum value of delay to be set between two successive UWB pulses is determined and the effect of frequency detuning is studied.

This letter demonstrates a CMOS impulse radio ultrawideband (IR-UWB) on–off keying (OOK) generator with multipulses per bit generation. The proposed IR-UWB OOK generator is implemented in 0.11 lm CMOS process where 1.33 mm proto-type accomplishes pulse train of 250 Mbps for one bit duration while consuming 10 mW from 1 V supply voltage. This pulse generator complies with the FCC spectral mask f...

In recent years there has emerged an ever increasing need of a wireless technology that will provide high data rates for short ranges in order to create seamless wireless interfaces between homeand office-environment devices with its periferials. A technology that a substantial part of wireless industry has turned its attention to is called Ultra Wide Band (UWB). There exist two proposals for a...
متن کاملUWB Impulse Radio Waveform Shaping Techniques for Narrow-Band Interference Rejection
-In ultra-wideband (UWB) impulse radio (IR) technology, it is important that the pulse shape be adjusted such that the power spectral characteristics not only satisfy the standard limits, but also be characterized by deep nulls at the locations of existing narrowband primary users. Cognitive Radio Technology (CR) is presented as a viable solution for UWB systems for narrowband interference supp...

In February of 2002, the FCC approved the use of ultra-wideband (UWB) technology for commercial use. UWB has since been considered as a solution for the next generation of personal area networks (PANs) and wireless local area networks (WLANs). UWB (or impulse) radio employs short duration pulses to communicate, thereby spreading signal energy very “thinly” from DC to a few gigahertz [1]. The “u...
متن کاملRadio Coverage Extension of the FCC-Compliant Low-Rate UWB Networking Devices
In UWB systems three factors have to be considered to design a radio link: (i) peakand (ii) average power limits defined by FCC Regulations and (iii) low supply voltage available in handheld cheap devices. An exact mathematical model for the interpretation of FCC Regulations is derived. The radio coverage of UWB networking devices is determined and a chaos-based approach for the coverage extens...
